Lately, our team started thinking more deeply about our business. After reflecting a bit, we were faced with a difficult question… “With services and products aside, what value does our company retain?”
It was a question that needed to be asked… yet no one really wanted to answer. The truth was, myself and my colleagues had all become so busy with our work that we had become self-consumed and forgot about the importance of giving back and becoming involved in the community. Had our computers died and our servers crashed, we would be worth nothing… pretty depressing right? Right. But we’ve changed.
After taking some time to reflect on our long term impact and the legacy we hope to leave, we’ve changed our ways. We’ve researched and found some great opportunities to get involved and contribute to our local (and even not-so-local) communities. With this, we thought we’d put together a blog post to encourage our readers to do the same. In addition, we’ve come up with a few websites that can help you start your own journey.
MyImpact.org
MyImpact.org is a great twitter-based utility for seeking out, broadcasting, and tracking your impact. See what other people are doing, share what you’re doing, and monitor your personal or corporate progress as you contribute to a great cause. This app is currently in Beta – but seems to be working just fine. The group behind it has also expressed interest in some great utilities and tools for the future as well.
VolunteerMatch.org
Volunteer Match is a website for establishing relationships between volunteers and organizations seeking help. Users can search for opportunities to volunteer by entering the zip code, a keyword, or by browsing. VolunteerMatch.org has helped connect thousands of volunteers to charitable organizations throughout the years to enhance our surrounding communities.
Idealist.org
Idealist.org is an online project established to allow individuals and organizations to exchange ideas, resources, and opportunities, as well as seek our supporters and volunteers. Here you can find people, share information, read stories, post ideas, and even make donations.
DoSomething.org
“DoSomething.org is one of the largest organizations in the US that helps young people rock causes they care about”. (DoSomething.org). DoSomething.org is a great resources for young people to seek out opportunities to volunteer and link up with charities and organizations. This website is particularly aimed at a younger crowd, and does a great job at encouraging teenagers and our youth to get out and get involved.
Do you know of any other charitable websites? Please, tell us about them!
